“95 years ago, Jesus revealed His Divine Mercy to Saint Faustina, reminding the world that no sin is greater than His love. Though the historic apparition took place on February 22, 1931, that profound message remains vividly alive today: His mercy is endless, His forgiveness is real, and His Sacred Heart is always open. As we approach this 95th anniversary of grace, join Alpha Travel on a sacred pilgrimage to the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Poland, visit the peaceful resting place of St. Faustina, and gently whisper the faithful prayer: Jesus, I trust in You!”
In the grand tapestry of Catholic Church history, certain moments have profoundly transformed the spiritual life of humanity. One of the greatest is the moment Jesus revealed His Divine Mercy to Saint Faustina.
The year 2026 marks the 95th Anniversary of this divine message being bestowed upon the world (February 22, 1931 – February 22, 2026). This is a special season of grace for every faithful soul to set aside worldly anxieties, return to the merciful embrace of God, and embark on a pilgrimage of a lifetime to the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki, the outskirts of historic Krakow, Poland.
1. 95 YEARS AGO: THE LIGHT FROM A SMALL ROOM IN PŁOCK
(The Apparition: 95 Years of Divine Mercy)
On the cold winter evening of February 22, 1931, at the convent of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Płock, Poland, a humble nun named Maria Faustina Kowalska witnessed a magnificent vision.

In her Diary, St. Faustina described Jesus appearing to her clothed in a white garment. One hand was raised in blessing, while the other touched the garment at His breast, from which two large rays emanated: one red, the other pale.
Jesus spoke to the nun:
“Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and then throughout the world.”
This Divine Mercy apparition did not bring a new doctrine, but rather a powerful reminder of an eternal truth from Sacred Scripture: God’s mercy is endless, His forgiveness is real, and no sin is greater than His love. Jesus chose St. Faustina as the “Secretary of Divine Mercy,” entrusting her with the mission of spreading this message to a wounded and divided world. 95 years have passed, and that message has not faded but resonates ever more powerfully, becoming a source of spiritual healing and comfort for hundreds of millions of souls.
2. THE SHRINE OF DIVINE MERCY – THE HEART OF ŁAGIEWNIKI
(The Global Center of Mercy)
For Catholics around the world, the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki, Krakow is the “Capital of Divine Mercy.” This is not only a monumental religious complex but a spiritual sanctuary where heaven and earth meet.
The History and Architecture of the Basilica
The new Basilica was built and personally consecrated by Pope St. John Paul II on August 17, 2002. He was also the Pope who canonized Sister Faustina and established Divine Mercy Sunday for the universal Church.

The Basilica’s architecture resembles a modern ship, symbolizing the “Ark of Salvation” amidst the stormy seas of life. The soaring bell tower reaches toward the sky like the unceasing plea of humanity turning to God.
Stepping inside the Sanctuary, pilgrims are awed by the vast, bright, and serene space. The focal point of the main altar is the Burning Bush, seemingly blown by the wind, embracing the image of Divine Mercy. Here, thousands of pilgrims from all five continents gather daily to celebrate Holy Mass, receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and adore the Blessed Sacrament.
Especially, every day at 3:00 PM – The Hour of Great Mercy – the entire Sanctuary echoes with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The resonance of thousands of voices creates an atmosphere so deeply moving it brings tears to the eyes, where everyone profoundly experiences the presence and forgiveness of God.
3. THE CHAPEL OF ST. JOSEPH & THE RESTING PLACE OF ST. FAUSTINA
(The Chapel of St. Joseph & The Tomb of St. Faustina)
Humbly situated right next to the grand Basilica is the historic Chapel of St. Joseph. For many pilgrims, this is the true “heart” of the Łagiewniki complex, as it houses two of the most sacred treasures: the world-renowned Original Image of Divine Mercy and the Tomb of St. Faustina.
The Image “Jesus, I Trust in You”
Above the main altar of the Chapel rests the Divine Mercy painting created by artist Adolf Hyła in 1944. This is considered the most famous and widely venerated version globally.
- The Pale Ray: Stands for the Water which makes souls righteous (the Sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation).
- The Red Ray: Stands for the Blood which is the life of souls (the Sacrament of the Eucharist).

Beneath the image is the inscription “Jezu, ufam Tobie” (Jesus, I trust in You). Standing before this sacred icon, looking into the merciful eyes of the approaching Jesus, it feels as if every burden, sorrow, and sin of the pilgrim is lifted away.
The Resting Place of the “Secretary of Divine Mercy”
Just beneath the side altar on the left of the Chapel lies a white marble coffin containing the sacred relics of St. Faustina.
St. Faustina spent her final years at this convent, enduring the agonizing pains of tuberculosis, yet her soul remained deeply immersed in intimate union with Jesus. She passed away on October 5, 1938, at the age of 33.
Visiting St. Faustina’s resting place, you will see faithful pilgrims kneeling for hours, praying the Rosary, their eyes fixed on her tomb to ask for her intercession. Countless miracles of physical and spiritual healing have been recorded in this very small chapel.
We bring here the intentions of our families, prayers for our children’s peace, healing for sick relatives, and the conversion of souls far from God. Assuredly, the Apostle of Divine Mercy will listen and place those prayers directly into the open Sacred Heart of Jesus.
